Why do you want to be a tutor?
- I am currently a classroom teacher, but my most rewarding teaching experiences are the one-on-one conferences I have with my students. I very much enjoy the individual attention tutoring can provide a student. It's a great way to accelerate your learning!
Why should a student pick you?
- I have plenty of experience teaching and hanging out with kids. Most of my experience has been teaching in boarding schools on the East Coast. This means I lived and ate with the same kids I taught and coached. Many evenings I would sit with students and help them revise their essays for English and History class, offered advice on college essays and helped them prepare for SAT's. I love helping kids improve their writing and am grateful to be able to guide students through their reading and writing challenges.
Personal Statement:
- Knowing how to communicate an idea clearly and with style is a skill that can be applied to every profession. Also knowing how to be a critical thinker, ask good questions and think about alternative perspectives can help a student achieve success in every discipline. My experiences teaching English over 15 years on the mainland and Hawaii has introduced me to a variety of learning styles. I've developed my own strategies for helping all sorts of students achieve their academic goals.
