Free Responses:
When our tutors were asked the following questions, this is how they responded:
- Hobbies:
- I like to read and write. I have been learning piano on my own for a while. Outdoors, I hike, swim, play tennis, and work out with friends or by myself.
Why do you want to be a tutor?
- Many changes have been made in educating young ones and it is hard for students, teachers, and parents to adjust, let alone teach and/or understand school subject matter.
I have experienced the tumult in public schools firsthand and survived.
I want to help anyone who really wants to learn to not only survive, but thrive and progress.
Why should a student pick you?
- I am willing to teach by a set of rules and principles but I am more than ready to tailor it to a student's needs. Flexibility is a luxury for many students and school teachers may be under too much stress to focus their attention on individual students.
If I am able to pique a pupil's interest in a subject, I can then focus my time and energy to effectively tackle the subject matter with him or her.
Finally, I am prepared to lend not only academic assistance, but also any support the student needs that I am able to reasonably provide.
Personal Statement:
- I want to help students excel not only in academics, but also to press on to mental and emotional maturity. I wish to help uproot unbalanced, detrimental attitudes and habits such as perfectionism, passiveness, perfidiousness, and procrastination and cultivate a positive attitude towards learning and character development by providing direct, dynamic involvement.
Any Last Words?
- 'Sometimes you just need a friend, mentor, disciplinarian, or all three.'
Feedback from Students:
- From a Very Satisfied Mother of a 12th Grade 10th grade English Student
- Phillip is endlessly patient, and good at explaning things.
